I was bottom of the class in home economics, but I did try so hard. One day we were making rock cakes and my friends decided to swap the recipes round. Consequently, I added twice as much milk as there should have been. I'll never forget my cookery teacher's face and tone of voice when she looked into the oven to see a baking tray overflowing with exploded raisins and bits of dough which had all spread into one amalgous whole.
